Is retirement bad for your mental health?

A study done in the UK found retirement increases the chances of suffering from clinical depression by around 40%, and of having at least one diagnosed physical illness by 60%.


Initially, stopping work may benefit your health. Less stress and more time for pleasurable activities is something we all desire.


But the social connections from work can be totally lost as well as the sense of purpose work supplies. Even if you've been successful, finding new meaning in life may be elusive.


Adult children may seem too busy. Finding a new circle of freinds is no easy task, and of course quarantine is a huge issue!


Being around a spouse 24/7 can present challenges you never expected.


Even after a successful career, happiness is not guaranteed. If you ir a loved one is struggling with the reality of retirement, give me a call. Help is available. Connection is important.
